Ilse Fromm-Michaels (1888 - 1986) came to Berlin as a musically gifted young woman from her native Hamburg, where she studied piano and composition at the Stern Conservatory. As a pianist, she enjoyed success throughout Germany and performed under the great conductors of her time. Because of her husband's Jewish background, she was subjected to National Socialist repression from 1933 onwards. Babette Dorn has recorded the piano works of Ilse Fromm-Michaels on CD.
