“This is my favorite spot! I’d never want to be anywhere else!” The turtle and the armadillo can’t agree: Who has the better favorite spot? The turtle prefers to stay where she always is, but the armadillo feels kind of uneasy there. Something isn’t right. Is it better over there? When the snake shows up too, things get crowded. Who will let her in, or is there only room for two? Preoccupied with being stubborn, curious, and uncertain, the three don’t notice a disaster approaching from above. BOOM! Is this the end? Or the future? Or something else entirely? Amid their confusion about themselves and the ever-changing world, the sometimes-friends, sometimes-enemies, and then-friends-again characters from Jon Klassen’s picture book explore philosophical themes for young and old alike. It’s about the things we sometimes don’t dare to say, wanting to be right, accepting help, and dealing with uncertainty.

A play with subtle humor and poetic imagery by Anso Dautz about the story of a turtle and an armadillo, about friendship, saying goodbye, and the courage to embrace change—a tender journey exploring how loss can give rise to new closeness and new paths, for children (ages 5–7).

The production was created in collaboration with the tdjw Leipzig and at the Theater der jungen Welt Leipzig.
