Exhibition: The Client Is Dead - Graphic Design as Autonomous Practice
We encounter graphic design in everyday life: on streets and squares, on screens, in magazines, interfaces or on posters. In these contexts, it has to function, provide orientation and attract attention. Its existence is usually purpose-bound, its evaluation closely linked to functionality, legibility and efficiency. It is rarely designed for the exhibition space.
At the same time, it can be observed that many contemporary designers are increasingly moving away from the pure implementation of external briefings. They are developing their own narratives, exploring personal, social or political themes and using design as a means of reflection. The boundaries between applied design and free artistic practice are being deliberately shifted - or questioned altogether.
The exhibition The Client Is Dead addresses this area of tension. It asks what happens when graphic design is not understood exclusively as a functional solution, but as an independent, autonomous practice - and under what conditions it can be exhibited.
