Ausstellung: Train Stories
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:
The exhibition “Train Stories” brings together striking children’s drawings of Westbahnhof, created by young artists from Ukraine. The works depict trains, scenes at the station, and personal impressions from a perspective that is at once observant, lively, and touching. The drawings reflect observations of everyday life as well as memories, feelings, and children’s unique perspective on a place that, for many of them, is closely associated with arrival, farewell, and being on the move.
On display are 28 drawings by children and teenagers who came to Vienna as a result of the war. At the time the works were created, the artists were between 6 and 14 years old. The drawings were created at the Ukrainian center “Domivka” as well as in a private art studio under the guidance of Ukrainian artist and art teacher Olena Maiorenko.
The exhibition focuses on Westbahnhof as a special place in the children’s lives. For many of them, it is far more than a transportation hub: it is a place of observation, of arrival, of waiting, and of continuing their journey. Conversations with the children sparked the idea to artistically explore this very connection and capture trains and station scenes from their very personal perspectives.
The result is a series of expressive, colorful drawings that bring movement, details, and individual impressions to life in a unique way. “Train Stories” invites visitors to pause for a moment and rediscover the station through the eyes of children.
The exhibition will be on view on July 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as part of the summer festival in the event room (ground floor, across from Heindl).
