Griot post-punk noise with seductive trance power

Avalanche Kaito: The urban griot Kaito Wimse from Burkina Faso meets the Brussels noise-punk musicians Benjamin Chaval (drums, electronics) and Nico Gitto (guitar). The trio fuses the oral traditions of the West African griot with sounds from post-punk, wave, free jazz, prog rock and industrial electronica. The result is a mysterious and exciting sound matrix in which disparate and strangely compatible soundscapes echo: Griot traditions, Fugazi, Can, the Zappa of the 70s, Black Midi, the driving force of Nyege Nyege Tapes...

Kaito Winse comes from a family of griot musicians and came to Belgium in a "search for music that didn't yet exist" after a friend of the Belgian duo Le Jour du Seigneur played their music to him. After a few detours, the current line-up came together and began to develop a sound world of old groit proverbs that plunges into a futuristic noise chaos.

The trio mainly plays compositions by Kaito Wimse, who speaks, mumbles and sings with a voice so powerful and enchanting that it is as if it were made for the opera, while at the same time eliciting incredibly beautiful sounds from the peul flute and the traditional mouth bow. Nico Gitto contributes orchestral, elaborate sonic experiences and a lush groove with his barriron guitar, in sync with Chaval's powerful drumming, which combines with Kaito's griot energy.

The band released their self-titled debut album in June 2022, shortly after the highly acclaimed 4-song EP "Dabalomuni" in January of the same year, which was described by The Wire as "freaked, juddering electronic punk". The task remains to find words for a music that is only just beginning to emerge.
