Amy Winehouse (Marisa Abela) grew up in a loving but dysfunctional Jewish family in London's Southgate neighborhood. As an 18-year-old, she still shuttles back and forth between the home of her mother Janis (Juliet Cowan), who is struggling with health problems, and that of her father, cab driver Mitch (Eddie Marsan). The whole clan loves classic jazz, a sound that inspires the talented singer and aspiring songwriter just as much as more modern pop music. The young woman's closest confidante is her grandmother Cynthia (Lesley Manville), who is also her role model in terms of style and dress. During one of her performances in local pubs, Winehouse is discovered by manager Nick Shymansky (Sam Buchanan), who manages to get her a contract with an established record label. While her career goes straight through the roof, Amy increasingly turns to alcohol and drugs - which doesn't seem to harm the quality of her songs and the intensity of her unique voice for the time being, however, and also helps her image as a rebellious free spirit. One day, by chance, she meets the charismatic Blake (Jack O'Connell) in a pub, recognizes her soul mate in him and falls madly in love. But soon the artist's inexorable rise to fame, the obligations that come with it and the pressure of publicity, as well as the slowly emerging effects of the reckless treatment of her body, stand in the way of Amy's happiness ...
