Band of Friends

Gerry McAvoy is one of the most influential musicians in Irish blues rock history. Together with Rory Gallagher, he formed the rhythmic backbone of one of Europe's most legendary live bands for over two decades. In 2012, McAvoy finally launched the Band of Friends project - triggered by the rediscovery of his long-lost vinyl collection. Listening again to the recordings he had made with Gal-Lagher, the desire arose to bring the energy and passion of this era back to life live.
Together with his long-time friend and companion Ted McKenna, McAvoy went on tour again. After McKenna's death in 2019, Brendan O'Neill became a permanent member of the band. O'Neill had already worked closely with Rory Gallagher from 1981 to 1991 and was involved in the acclaimed albums Defender, Jinx and Fresh Evidence. With his powerful, dynamic drumming, he played a decisive role in shaping the sound of these years and toured around the globe for over a decade.
In addition to McAvoy and O'Neill, the two guitarists Brian Tambling and Andy Taylor complete the line-up this year. Brian Tambling, who grew up in Cork, Ireland, discovered his passion for the blues at an early age and developed a style that is as soulful as it is energetic. Andy Taylor, on the other hand, comes from the Scottish Orkney Islands. After difficult beginnings, he found his musical identity through the great artists of the 60s and 70s and today combines classic blues rock with impressive virtuosity and character.
