Bartholomäus Grill grew up on a farm in Upper Bavaria. In his new book "Bauernsterben", the long-time Africa correspondent for DIE ZEIT and SPIEGEL describes the destruction of traditional agriculture by the global agricultural industry - without falling into conservative resentment. He denounces a web of politics, lobbying, agricultural corporations and speculators that are destroying smaller farms, rural habitats and our environment in the course of unchecked increases in production. Grill focuses on Europe and the current farmers' protests, but reaches far beyond our horizons with his decades of experience in Africa.
