As in the past two years, citizens interested in species conservation can pick up plants free of charge that are perfect for planting in a window box, on a balcony, or in the garden. The plants, which are valuable to native wild bees, were pre-grown in the association’s own nursery. The goal of this initiative is to establish suitable native nectar and pollen plants for wild bees and other insects, in order to ensure a better, long-term food supply in urban areas of Dresden.

About the BienenBrückenBauenProject

Through theBienenBrückenBauenproject, we aim to work together with dedicated citizens to actively protect wild bees in the state capital of Dresden. Our goal is not only to improve the habitats and breeding grounds of wild bees. We also want to document the presence of wild bee species in the project area while sharing knowledge about these species.

Species extinction has long been a sad reality. It is estimated that up to 58,000 animal species disappear from the planet every year. In Germany, insects are particularly affected; as the most species-rich class of all, they account for around 70% of all animal species.

Wild bees are also among the declining species groups. In Germany, nearly half of the species found here are endangered or have already gone extinct. Their habitat is becoming scarce. There is a lack of both nesting sites and food sources.
