At the Best of Poetry Slam, it all comes together: big emotions in small moments, raw anger meets gentle poetry, rapid-fire storytelling gags clash with moments of stillness, punchlines roll through iambic meter—and in the end, it all comes down to the essentials: A sound echoes through the room, takes shape as a word, grows into a sentence, and is heard, grasped, understood—action, reaction, applause, 10 points.Sold out almost every time since September 2013, the Best of Poetry Slam stands at the forefront of the German spoken-word scene. This is where they all come together: professional slammers, legends, promising newcomers, big names, hidden gems—or, in short: the best of the best! They all write, perform, bellow, whisper, exaggerate, and compete for victory—and we explicitly give them more time than in a regular competition so they can fully savor their body of work and present a cross-section of their creations, all to ultimately win over the tough-as-nails jury. Because just like in a regular poetry slam, the rules of the art apply here too—original work, no singing, just you and a mic.To elevate this fireworks display of literary entertainment to the pinnacle of nightlife, Hamburg’s most charming emcee, David Friedrich, will guide you through the evening and, together with you, welcome four of the most incredible slam poets from the German-speaking world. Complemented by a musical special guest, you’ll be left with memories of a show, of emotions and lyrics, laughter and tears—and the question of when you’ll be back for the next one.
