“Bin nur ein armer Großstadtspatz”- Mascha Kaléko: ein Porträt mit Rosa & Jonathan Tennenbaum

In the organizer's words:

On the 50th anniversary of the death of one of the most important poets of the 20th century

Mascha Kaléko was Jewish, a Berliner and a poet. Born in 1907 in Austria-Hungary, she moved to Germany with her family during the First World War. Her first success was the "Lyrische Stenogrammheft" in the 1930s, until the National Socialists banned her from writing. In 1938, she emigrated to the USA shortly before the Reichspogromnacht and later lived with her husband in Israel. As a representative of New Objectivity, she stands alongside Tucholsky, Kästner, Keun and Ringelnatz.

Her verses are tenderly ironic, melancholy and witty, which made her an important voice in the Weimar Republic and in exile. Even in the USA, Berlin remained a place of longing for her, "her Berlin", which she once sang about.

With accompaniment on the piano.
