BIRDLAND BIGBAND FEAT. FIETE FELSCH

At this special concert, the band will be joined by the lead alto player of the NDR Bigband Fiete Felsch. Fiete Felsch was part of the first generation of the BuJazzO under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer in 1987. From 1989 he was a scholarship holder at the University of North Texas, where he was named "most outstanding student in jazz". Since 1995 he has been lead alto of the NDR Bigband and since 1999 professor of saxophone at the HfMT Hamburg. You can expect a program full of hits from the big band's history, in which Fiete Felsch will be heard as soloist and lead alto.

The Birdland Bigband is Hamburg's established jazz ensemble and the first resident big band of one of the oldest jazz clubs in the Hanseatic city. Featuring top-class members of Hamburg's jazz scene, this 17-piece band will bring the swing and big band era to life by bringing the all too rarely played works of the great big band composers Thad Jones, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico to the Birdland stage - with respect for tradition and the courage to bring their own musical influences to the table.
