It is a program that can hardly be surpassed in terms of emotional depth: two late string quartets by Mendelssohn and Beethoven, both far ahead of their time in their unreserved expression, and a life-affirming concertino by the composer Mieczysław Weinberg, who was marked by the war years. Under the direction of Berlin star violinist Antje Weithaas, the SKO brings the works to the Stuttgart Liederhalle as a string orchestra with unusual power and captivating passion.
