Black Swan is a psychological thriller that delves deep into the dark abysses of identity, perfectionism and self-destruction. The ambitious ballet dancer Nina wants to take on the leading role in Swan Lake. For the role, she has to embody both the innocent white swan and the seductive black swan. The attempt to unite the opposing roles of the white and black swan is a seemingly impossible balancing act that increasingly tears her psyche apart.

The film deals with a fragile identity, the destructive pressure for perfection and the struggle between light and shadow in the human soul. Aronofsky visualizes Nina's psychological disintegration through surreal dream sequences, hallucinations and an increasingly distorted perception, allowing the viewer to immerse themselves directly in her torn inner world. Black Swan is therefore not only a psychological thriller about ambition and competition, but also a dark study of self-abandonment.
