Reading and concert by Thomas Waldherr and Richard Limbert on Bob Dylan in the 80s

Bob Dylan celebrates his 85th birthday on May 24, 2026. Reason enough for Darmstadt-based Dylan expert Thomas Waldherr to publish his third book about Bob Dylan. "Bob Dylan 1981" takes us back to a time when important milestones were set in various areas: Bob Dylan returns after three years from a narrow-minded evangelical Christianity to freer thinking and secular themes, but without ever losing his faith in God again. In the USA, Ronald Reagan comes to power and the age of neoliberalism begins, the consequences of which we feel today in all their severity. Dylan goes on tour in Germany, inspires his followers, but is written off by the press. And a 17-year-old experiences his first Dylan concert in Mannheim.

Waldherr brings all this together in his book, from which he will read selected passages. There will also be a section on Bob Dylan's only GDR concert: East Berlin 1987, with musical accompaniment from Leipzig singer-songwriter Richard Limbert, who will perform Dylan songs from this period as well as other pieces by the music legend. An intense, profound and entertaining listening experience all about the exceptional American artist.
