For most people, a visit to a Christmas market with craft stalls, mulled wine and roasted almonds is simply part of the Advent season. The Christmas market in Bochum city center from Thursday, November 19 to Wednesday, December 23 (closed: Sunday of the Dead, November 22) is a real crowd puller. It is taking place for the 55th time this year. Not only does it offer up to 200 lovingly decorated market stalls, a medieval market, a curling rink, giant light sculptures and a fairytale forest on 33,000 square meters, but also a Santa Claus who "takes to the skies". The name behind the "Flying Santa Claus" already gives a hint of great things to come. After all, Falko Traber comes from a famous family of high-wire artists. He hovers 33 meters above the ground on his reindeer-drawn sleigh over Dr.-Ruer-Platz. The route is 125 meters long. Santa Claus tells a Christmas story above the heads of the visitors. Afterwards, children who recite a poem or sing a song with him give Santa a special treat. It pays to be brave - a surprise awaits the little participants.
