"Body that Stands" by Smadar Goshen

In the organizer's words:

Body that Stands
Body that Stands explores resistance through the lens of resilience. On a stage with hundreds of wooden bricks, the dancers move in an endless loop of destruction and construction. In the changing landscape, images emerge - fragments reminiscent of ruins, battles and their aftermath - evoking scenes that inevitably recall wars and conflicts. While addressing the conditions of ruins, the performers demonstrate the survival aspect inherent in the act of resistance.
Throughout the 60-minute piece, the three dancers in "Body that stands" engage in simple physical resistance - against each other and against the space itself. They explore a range of possible reactions to encounters with opposing forces and experience moments of conflict, support, frustration, pain and fantasy. By living through these brief fragments of reality, they constantly redefine their identity and condition. Over the course of the play, the three performers shape their own sense of autonomy, causing the entire landscape to undergo a metamorphosis. They constantly shape and reshape the meticulous scenography of wooden bricks and use it to set boundaries, mark territories and convey messages. The experimental playground is increasingly transformed into a battlefield, a cemetery, an urban landscape and more. By building, deconstructing, destroying and reassembling, the performers explore the endurance of the human body in relation to that of inanimate materials and the capabilities of one body in relation to another. Body that Stands observes acts of resistance and their consequences, not only between individuals, but also between people and where they stand in society.
