This modern Russian fairy tale is set in the time of the tsars.
The pantries are empty. So the Tsar orders his best marksman, Fedott, to shoot a partridge in the forest. Instead of a partridge, Fedott encounters a pigeon that promises to serve him faithfully if he doesn't shoot it - and which turns into a lovely wife at home: Marusya.
The tsar becomes jealous of Fedott's relationship with the extraordinary Marusya, who can even grant wishes, and sets his chief general to work to eliminate Fedott. With the help of the evil witch Baba Yaga, the general devises seemingly impossible tasks for Fedott, which will cost him his head if they are not completed...
Ukrainian Borys Kortunov, who comes from Kiev, adapts "The Tale of Fedott the Archer", which was written by Russian author Leonid Alekseyevich Filatov in the 1980s in the former Soviet Union, as a family play.
He uses the original Russian-language version, which was written in wonderful rhymes, as a unifying element for all people living here, regardless of their nationality.
