Brühler Schlosskonzerte: Capella Augustina & Andreas Spering

In the organizer's words:

Haydn - Horns - Hefti!

Capella Augustina
Andreas Spering

It is well known that Joseph Haydn never ran out of ideas to present his orchestral musicians with new challenges. To heighten the dramatic and stormy character of Symphony No. 39, for example, he used four horns instead of the usual two! The audience would have been astonished. In the meantime, such a horn quartet has found its place in the great symphony orchestras. But now the Swiss composer David Philip Hefti is once again recalling Haydn's historic coup in his composition commissioned for the Haydn Festival, as he also relies on the unusual instrumentation of four horns. And with the 'little' G minor symphony by Haydn's fanatic Mozart, which also has this special instrumentation, we also hear an orchestral work that impressed, almost shocked, contemporaries with its contrasts of colors and moods.

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
Symphony in G minor Hob. I:39

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Symphony No. 25 in G minor KV 183

David Philip Hefti (*1975)
World premiere - Commissioned by the Haydn Festival
