Markus Becker (piano)
The piano sonatas by Joseph Haydn have long been among Markus Becker's many musical loves. With their often particularly spontaneous gestures, their surprising twists and turns and their melancholy cheerfulness, the 60 or so sonatas appeal not only to the classical pianist, who has won numerous record awards, but also to Becker, who has been a passionate jazz pianist since his earliest youth! Haydn's sonatas, with all their abundance of ideas, virtually invite him to 'spin them out playfully'. In this concert, Becker, who is currently working on a complete recording of all of Haydn's sonatas, first lets Haydn have his say in the original - before picking out motifs from the sonatas to be inspired by them for jazz improvisations.
