The Brussels Philharmonic, rich in tradition, was founded in 1935 and is one of the great top orchestras in Europe. As a former radio orchestra, it is dedicated to recording important film music, among other things, and is known worldwide for this. These recordings have been honored with prestigious awards such as the Golden Globe Award, Oscar and César. On its 90th anniversary, the orchestra made its debut in the Elbphilharmonie and was enthusiastically acclaimed by the public and the press.
The top orchestra returns to the Elbphilharmonie the very next year to present another thrilling program.
The solo highlight of the evening will be violinist Andrea Cicalese, cellist Hayoung Choi and pianist Filippo Gorini, all three of whom are among the most outstanding young artists of our time. Together they will play Ludwig van Beethoven's popular "Triple Concerto" for their Elbphilharmonie debut.
The festive matinée on Ascension Day will open with one of the most famous works in music history - the overture to "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. The finale will be the cheerful 5th Symphony by Franz Schubert, conducted by Oscar Jockel. The young up-and-coming conductor Oscar Jockel was assistant conductor with the Berliner Philharmoniker from 2022-24. Since then, he has conducted renowned orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
