BRUTALISM presents Lundin Oil at KVS

BRUTALISM has developed a platform for showing art and music with a focus on materials, texture and structure in buildings that can be associated with brutalist aesthetics. On December 2nd we will host a show with Lundin Oil (Northern Electronics) in the historic Kornversuchsspeicher - one of Germany's oldest concrete buildings - located close to Hauptbahnhof in Berlin. In addition to the live performance there will be music by BRUTALISM residents Dornen, lomi, mariami and Måtyrer from 8pm and a group exhibition with paintings/sculptures from Felix Ansmann, Jessie Darnell, Mary Clare Pelch and Maurice Wald as well as video works by Friedrich Andreoni, Richie Culver, Aodhogàn O'Flaherty, Planar and Pryvyd starting at 6pm. The renovation of the heritage protected Kornversuchsspeicher by AFF Architekten has already been awarded several prizes, including the Architecture Prize Beton 2023. The building was constructed at the end of the 19th century as a 6-story grain store on the Berlin-Spandau Shipping Canal, aimed at exploring grain storage possibilities for a growing population. The rare funnel-shaped ceiling structures are unique and the use of a reinforced concrete frame construction make the building a significant witness to the early days of concrete construction technology. While the first part was built with bricks and originally had an internal wooden structure, this was replaced with reinforced concrete during the first expansion in 1915/16.
