In his non-fiction book "Alpha-Boys", comedian Aurel Mertz delves deep into those corners of the internet and society where men are supposed to become real "alphas" - and finds muscle mania, loneliness, toxic role models and plenty of hurt feelings. Mertz follows the traces of a new, old-fashioned masculinity and asks: Why are young men longing for role models from the last century again? Why is vulnerability seen as weakness? And why do so many seek closeness to Trump, Putin & Co. instead of their own needs?

With his typical humor and a very clear view, Aurel Mertz analyzes how the manosphere works, where misogyny arises and what needs to happen so that men are finally allowed to do more than remain silent, fight or perform.

Aurel Mertz is a comedian, presenter, podcaster and actor - known for formats such as the ZDF show "Aurel Original", the ARD series "naked", his appearances on ZDFneo and ProSieben and as co-host of the German Film Award 2024. He studied journalism in Vienna and Istanbul, was discovered by Frank Elstner, has been shaping the German comedy landscape for years and comments pointedly on social issues on the big stages and in social media. In "Alpha-Boys", he now presents his first non-fiction book - sharp, funny and absolutely contemporary.
