The death of her eccentric grandfather throws Chris' life into turmoil. To say goodbye, she returns to the small town where she grew up, but from which she fled head over heels over six years ago. She slips back into the life she had back then, with Doro, Rafa and Antonia, who decided seven years ago to raise a child together as a family of choice. Together with Chris, actually. Bit by bit, she realizes why she ran away from responsibility back then and what it all had to do with her grandfather. She realizes what an influence her grandfather had on her, the man who immediately pounced on any perceived mistake. It was his eyes that always watched over her and guided her gaze.

In Furrows and Dents, Ela Meyer tells the story of old friends, of a return and of the stirring up of deep-seated emotions in a sensitive, authentic way and with just the right amount of humor. The author calls a spade a spade and addresses important topics such as social expectations of women, the desire to have children and intentional childlessness, different family models, menopause and feminism. The end of a phase of life can be so liberating!

About the author:
Ela Meyer grew up in the seclusion of Friesland. She played guitar in two riot grrrl bands and wrote some of the songs. She has lived near Barcelona for many years. Her literary texts have appeared in various magazines and anthologies. In 2019, she co-founded and has since been co-editor of the literary magazine Schredder. Furchen und Dellen is her second novel, her debut novel Es war schon immer ziemlich kalt was also published by GOYA Verlag.

About the presenter:
Chris Möller (*1988 in Meschede) studied Philosophy, German Studies and Applied Literary Studies in Kassel and Berlin. She is currently working as a freelance organizer, curator and moderator on new forms of literature mediation, including with the label KASCH , which she co-founded, and the digital magazine . In 2019 she was part of the festival management at ULF - the independent reading series festival and in 2020 she was on the jury for the German Book Prize.
