Punk concert at KESSELHAUS
"Catchy guitar riffs, cutting synths, a high bawl factor - the ingredients of all Burnout Ostwest songs", wrote the taz newspaper on the occasion of the first Burnout Ostwest release five years ago. Of course, Felix Büttner and Hannes Gehring alias Burnout Ostwest were not completely unknown even then. Büttner had played saxophone in the ska and soul formation Schwarz auf Weiß and worked on the synths for the techno-punkers Alltag"for more excess and less bourgeoisie" .
His partner Gehring plays with Mercedes Jens (Bremen's stupidest band, according to his own words), playing pure 80s shredding punk and is also known as the guitarist of Team Scheisse.
Pretty busy, pretty vacant: just a few years later, the duo have released a respectable number of albums and gained a no less respectable following. Because yes, it should already be clear that the "Sleaford Mods of the North" promise concert experiences of the very finest quality, where they never tire of using their street-punk credibility to promote supposedly alternative, neo-hippie concepts of life, and ultimately the entire do-it-yourself culture, whose subversive, anti-commercial potential has long since been contained by capitalist exploitation processes (just ask us), and don't fail to take the occasional detour into pop reggae and dancehall if that's nothing to go by.
Last but not least, we recommend taking a look at the cover of their latest album "Bremer Schule" (sic!). And, of course, listen to their music. From A-Z and back.
Or to quote a music journalist: "Burnout Ostwest close the gap between piss and team shit that I didn't even know existed - somewhere between rave and shambolic punk." Or, to quote another: "as if Jens Rachhut (Dackelblut, Blumen am Arsch der Hölle etc.) sings with Sportfreude Stiller".
