No one really knows where Butterwegge suddenly came from. At some point, there was a sort of big bang, and ever since then, the three guys and three
girls from the Ruhr region have been among the mainstays of the German punk rock scene.
In 2026, the band reached No. 5 on the German album charts with their album “Liebe & Revolte.” The subsequent album tour was nearly completely sold out.

German-language lyrics—sometimes politically astute, sometimes trivially irreverent, and always with their usual sharp edge—meet fun and dance-filled antics. Smart punk rock laced with reggae and plenty of ska-punk beats creates an exuberant party atmosphere.

At a time when autocrats, dictatorial regimes, and armed conflicts are trying to become the new normal, this planet needs, above all, love and the courage to revolt!
