Italy in the summer of 1983: 17-year-old Elio Perlman spends his vacation at his parents' country estate. The intellectual family welcomes the new research assistant who will be helping Elio's father, an American professor of archaeology, for six weeks. Oliver initially appears arrogant and unsympathetic to Elio, but slowly a tender love blossoms between the two.
