In the organizer's words:

With "Christmas a cappella: Hodie Christus natus est", the Calmus Ensemble is immersing itself completely in the world of early music this year.

Included: simple Gregorian chant, dense Renaissance polyphony by Tomás Luis de Victoria, finely crafted movements by Michael Praetorius and sonorous early Baroque by Johann Hermann Schein. Calmus tells the Christmas story directly and vividly in sonorous moments. Chorales such as "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland" or "Vom Himmel hoch" appear in musical collages in which epochs and styles meet - sometimes quietly, sometimes in a completely new way.

Calmus' way of singing is emotional, close to the text and as undisguised as possible - the Leipzig:innen want to show what is in the music. Finally, they focus on the core of the Christmas message: hope, peace - and the human side of an ancient miracle.

Alto Johanna Gröhn Veit will be taking part in "Christmas a cappella" for the first time. And: the popular mulled wine will be served during the interval.
