CAN DÜNDAR | »katilimle karşılaştım / Ich traf meinen Mörder« | HAMBURG
In the organizer's words:
I Met Katilimle | A Live Discussion with Can Dündar
I was given the task of killing you. I’m ready to tell you everything I know.
With these words, a true story begins that seems more incredible than any thriller.
Famous journalist and exiled author Can Dündar made headlines around the world when he exposed the Turkish government’s secret arms shipments to jihadist groups, making him a target of the Erdoğan regime. He was subsequently sentenced to 27 years in prison, survived an assassination attempt in front of cameras, and was ultimately forced into exile in Berlin.
Years later, a letter from a prison in Buenos Aires changes everything: the man tasked with killing him wants to talk. Dündar agrees to this extraordinary meeting and finds himself caught up in a secret web of power, intelligence services, organized crime, and terrorism.
Can Dündar, drawing on his book *I Met My Assassin—A Journalist and the Dark Side of Power* (*Katilimle Karşılaştım—Bir Gazeteci ve İktidarın Karanlık Yüzü*), brings this story to the stage for the first time as a compelling live performance. Accompanied by personal testimonies, exclusive video footage, photographs, and documentary materials, he invites the audience into a reality hidden behind the scenes.
An unforgettable evening exploring the truth, fear, courage, and the vital importance of independent journalism.
The event will be held in Turkish, with simultaneous German translation provided for German-speaking guests. A Q&A session with the audience and a book signing will follow the program.

I Met My Murderer | A Live Narrative with Can Dündar
I was hired to kill you. I’m ready to tell you everything I know.
These words mark the beginning of a true story that sounds more unbelievable than any thriller.
Renowned journalist and exiled author Can Dündar made headlines worldwide with his exposé of secret arms shipments by the Turkish government to Islamist groups, which made him a target of the Erdoğan regime. This was followed by a 27-year prison sentence, an assassination attempt in front of rolling cameras, and ultimately exile in Berlin.
Years later, he receives a letter from a prison in Buenos Aires: the man who was supposed to kill him wants to talk. Dündar decides to have an extraordinary encounter—and in doing so uncovers a hidden network of power, intelligence agencies, organized crime, and terrorism.
Based on his book *I Met My Assassin: A Journalist and the Dark Side of Power*, Can Dündar brings this story to the stage for the first time as a compelling live narrative. With personal accounts, exclusive video clips, images, and documentary material, he takes the audience behind the scenes of a reality that otherwise remains hidden. An evening about truth, fear, courage—and the indispensable importance of independent journalism.
The event will be held in Turkish and will be simultaneously translated into German for German-speaking guests. It will be followed by a discussion with the audience and a book signing.
