On July 16, 1969, millions of people sat spellbound in front of their televisions and radios, waiting for the Saturn V rocket to take off. The Apollo 11 mission was to take the first astronauts to the moon and back to earth - and it succeeded.

This planetarium experience takes all passengers back in time and, thanks to the latest 3D technology, puts them right in the middle of what happened 50 years ago. This award-winning journey takes you from the current course of the moon in the earthly night sky to the first steps on the moon. For visitors, the moon and Apollo spaceship literally seem to float "within reach" in the middle of the room - from any seat in the circular Star Hall. THE APOLLO MISSIONS TO THE MOON - CAPCOM GO! 3D is a unique experience.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the Hamburg Planetarium has been presenting the show by the British National Space Center (NSC) since 2019, which won the "Best 3D Fulldome Show" award at the Fulldome Film Festival in Brno in 2019 and the "Best Full Feature Film" award at the Jena Film Festival.

"CapCom" refers to the "Capsule Communicator", i.e. the contact person at NASA's control center in Houston, who is the only person allowed to speak to the astronauts in the spaceship. The CapCom is always a trained astronaut himself and only when he gives the order can the launch or another maneuver take place. His "Go!" on July 20, 1969 also marked the permission for Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to risk landing on the moon with the lunar module "Eagle".

THE APOLLO MISSIONS TO THE MOON - CAPCOM GO! 3D puts us right in the middle of what is probably the most exciting journey in human history to date. The race of the USA and the former Soviet Union to the moon becomes an exciting experience.

The expanded version of Planetarium Hamburg now shows the moon and the moon landing in 3D for the first time! With the special stereoscopic 3D technology of the Hamburg Star Theater, the course of the moon through the zodiacal constellations and the impressive crater landscapes can be experienced incredibly vividly. The astonishing results of the Apollo missions are also vividly brought to life. The "small step" for Neil Armstrong, as a great leap for mankind - now experienced up close and sensually for everyone!
