Caroll Vanwelden is a Belgian jazz singer, pianist and composer who gained international attention with her unique settings of William Shakespeare's sonnets. In her so-called Shakespeare trilogy - consisting of the albums Caroll Vanwelden Sings Shakespeare Sonnets I (2012), II (2014) and III (2017) - she combines Shakespeare's poetic language with modern jazz arrangements.

Vanwelden succeeds in translating the emotional depth and complexity of the sonnets into expressive music: Sometimes swinging, sometimes melancholic, always with great musical sensitivity. Her warm voice, combined with fine piano playing and well thought-out compositions, makes these works a special dialog between classical poetry and contemporary jazz.

With this project, Caroll Vanwelden has created an independent artistic style that delights both literature and jazz lovers.
