Cat Storm - Heart

To deal artistically with the unique oeuvre of the Pet Shop Boys and to do so with the means of a cover version is as appealing as it is risky. Hundreds of such adaptations already exist, and covering in itself is a multi-layered affair, which Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe themselves have mastered to perfection.

Exciting cover versions are therefore a sophisticated game with allusions and references, quotations and the spirals of their own and borrowed memories. Cover versions are a bow, appropriation and interpretation, like adding more letters in Scrabble: a new word, a new meaning. Or in the best case: a new song.

Cat Storm is now delving into this labyrinth with her debut EP "Heart", which will be released in April 2026. It contains beguiling and intimate versions of "Heart", "The Way It Used To Be", "A Man Could Get Arrested" and "Home And Dry". The artist behind Cat Storm is Carmen Strzelecki. Born in Lörrach (SC Freiburg member :) ), grew up in Mannheim and immigrated to Cologne in the 1990s, Carmen has been an integral part of Cologne's art and culture scene since founding her publishing house "StrzeleckiBooks" in 2009.

She produced her EP on her own initiative together with some of the grand seigneurs of the Rhenish indie and electro aristocracy.

For the live premiere at Swamp, where she will be singing her own songs as well as the Heart EP, she will be accompanied by the Cologne duo "The Other Guys Of The Night".

Behind the self-ironic band name are author, DJ and football coach Tobias Thomas and Jörg Burger, whose aliases "The Modernist", "The Bionaut" and "Triola" should also be familiar to many in Freiburg.
