Cavalleria rusticana / I Pagliacci

CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA
Turiddu and Santuzza are a couple, he has promised her marriage. But when Turiddu meets his old love Lola again, he hardly pays any attention to Santuzza. She takes revenge by inciting Lola's jealous husband Alfio against Turiddu. Alfio challenges him to a duel.
I PAGLIACCI
Canio, a performer in an acting troupe, has learned that his wife Nedda has a lover. When he portrays this situation on stage with her, the game turns deadly serious: Canio loses his temper and stabs Nedda with a knife. When she, dying, calls her lover for help, he betrays himself and runs into Canio's knife as well. The play ends with his words "The game is over".
