Through his work with the Highland Saga Show, guitarist Ian Melrose met two world-class bagpipe players , Colman Connolly and Kian Johnston, and invited them to this year's Celtic Music Festival. KIAN JOHNSTON, born and raised in Ireland, is one of the world's most renowned virtuosos on the Scottish bagpipes. At the age of 16, he was the youngest ever leader of a pipe band at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. In the bagpipe scene, Kian is one of the "top of the tops" and was already world champion at the age of 16. With his virtuoso finger technique, he elicits sounds from his instrument like no other and has been passing on his expertise to selected students for a long time. He has been pipe sergeant of the "Highland Saga" ensemble since 2022.

COLMAN CONNOLLY grew up in London and learned to play the flute, whistle and uilleann pipes, the Irish bagpipes, as a child. In 2002, he was named "Uilleann Piper of the Year", was a finalist in the "Irish Musician of the Year" competition and was "All Britain Champion" on the Uilleann Pipes two years in a row. Colman founded his own online music school in 2018, plays and tours Europe in various formations, is involved in numerous CD productions and is also known in Germany as a musician in "Highland Saga". www.colmanconnolly.com
