At this event, we invite you to get to know both the local culture of Japan and Japanese culture in Berlin through an interactive experience.

You will have the opportunity to discover traditional crafts from my hometown Ōshū in Iwate Prefecture and also experience Wanko Soba - a unique and interactive food culture from rural Japan.

In addition, we organize a small market with artworks and products that showcase Japanese culture with a focus on cultural sustainability.

We also offer both traditional and creative soba-based dishes as well as authentic Japanese desserts made from mochi - for a true taste of Japan.

What is Wanko Soba?

"Wanko" means small bowl in Iwate dialect. Small portions of soba are served one after another, and each time you finish a bowl, it is immediately refilled. Many participants challenge themselves to see how many bowls they can eat.
