The bombing of Würzburg during the Second World War was a devastating tragedy that claimed many lives and left deep scars on the city and its population. Although decades have passed since the bombing, the memories of the tragedy and the losses suffered by families and communities remain vivid. The audio walk Codename Bleak takes you through the old town and to the historic sites with reports from Würzburg witnesses of the attack, narrated by the Mainfranken Theater acting ensemble.
One of these places is the former retreat house of the Sisters of the Redeemer, in whose air-raid shelter some Würzburg residents survived the attack.
The meeting point is the theater forecourt. We will guide you through the events of March 16, 1945 at several stations.
As places are limited due to the number of audio guides, we would ask you to book a ticket in advance.
