In the organizer's words:

The desert and its people are the theme of Nomad: the dry, cracked earth, traversed by nomads and their animals, by refugees and seekers. In images that are as sad as they are surreal, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui shows the thirst for water and community, the comfort of mutual help, without which no one can survive in the vast emptiness - and the boundless freedom of this lonely landscape. To the sound of African and oriental music, we see the proud, tolerant nomads in their fight against the elements, we see drops raining down on the desert or people turning into sand themselves.

After many excursions into other genres from ballet to opera, Cherkaoui returns to his own company Eastman, for which all his free works were created, with this homage to his Moroccan roots. Once again, he fearlessly reaches beyond dance and, like a magician, brings images, music and foreign traditions into his soft, flowing style. Lonely singing rings through the desert light, the beauty of Arabic ornaments characterizes the dance alongside the endless wandering. But when the glow of the evening sand dunes becomes too deep red, too threatening, then the desert is all that remains of man. It extends to the entire planet, all the way to the apocalypse.
