Comic Bar: Maren Amini mit "Ahmadjan und der Wiedehopf"

In the organizer's words:

Presented by Lisa Frühbeis:

In 1972, the young Ahmadjan comes to Germany from Afghanistan to become an artist. What follows is a colorful odyssey; an eventful life between art and war, home and new beginnings, flight and responsibility, always in search of happiness. Ahmadjan's daughter Maren Amini tells his impressive biography in her graphic novel based on the old Persian legend of the "Conference of the Birds" by Fariduddin Attar. She succeeds in exploring her own identity and the history of Afghanistan with sensitivity, humor and a light touch. Maren Amini's eagerly awaited debut "Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe" was awarded the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung Comic Book Prize in 2023.

Maren Amini, *1983, is an illustrator, cartoonist and comic artist from Hamburg. She works for the Washington Post, SPIEGEL and the Fraunhofer Institute, among others. For her, humor is an excellent way to anchor complicated topics in a sustainable way.

Lisa Frühbeis', *1987 in Munich, makes comics and murals. Her books "Busengewunder" and "Der Zeitraum" (2020 & 2023, both Carlsen) were awarded the Max und Moritz Prize for the best comic strip and the Ginco Award, among others. In large format, she designed a feminist streetcar in 2020 and a public swimming pool wall in 2023, for which she received the Red Dot Award and the German Design Award.
