Comic-Workshop: Was soll auf unserem Planeten bleiben?

In the organizer's words:

What does a photo of your grandmother have to do with climate change? And why can a sentence from your favorite book suddenly fit perfectly with a picture of a melting glacier?

‍Inthis workshop, we make comics from found objects. We work with images and texts that we bring together in new ways: Photos, drawings, sentences, quotes, snippets. As soon as we put text next to a picture, a story emerges. Sometimes it makes sense immediately and sometimes our brain makes the most absurd connections. Anything can emerge from this puzzle! Building on this, we develop and draw comic stories and try to answer the question that gives us the title: "What should remain on our planet?"

To do this, you bring five of your own image or text elements - for example photos, postcards, quotes, short dialogs or a funny word. Your comics will be created step by step: sometimes funny, sometimes serious, sometimes scary or romantic.

Leader Mia Oberländer is a comic artist and illustrator. She was born and raised in Ulm in 1995 and has lived in Hamburg since 2015. There she completed a bachelor's degree in illustration at the University of Applied Sciences and a master's degree in graphic storytelling with Anke Feuchtenberger. In 2021, she was awarded the Berthold Leibinger Foundation Comic Book Prize and a youth literature prize for her graphic novel debut "Anna". The book has been translated into several languages. Shorter works have appeared in the German-language edition of "Le Monde diplomatique", "ZEITmagazin" and the "New York Times", among others. Her second graphic novel "Saloon" was published in December 2025. She has been working for the Hamburg Comic Festival since 2019.
