Commedia dell'Arte
The roots of modern comedy
with Thos Renneberg
27.06.2026 & 28.06.2026
10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day
The Commedia dell'Arte is considered the origin of contemporary humor - physical, spontaneous, larger than life. Since the Renaissance, Italian comedy troupes have toured throughout Europe, bringing revolutionary character stereotypes with them:
the cunning and sly Arlecchino, the miserly and powerful Pantalone, the fiery and fiery Capitano, the naive and loving Isabella, the sharp-tongued Colombina - archetypes that still live on today in comedy, film and sitcoms.
Back to the origins:
In this workshop, we explore the physical play of the Commedia dell'Arte. Through improvisation, mask-like play and ensemble work, we will approach the movement impulses, motifs and emotions of the main types - and discover how surprisingly modern stage is created from tradition.
