Constantin Hartenstein – Prototyp

In the organizer's words:

The new exhibition at Galerie Parterre in the Kleiner Wasserspeicher.

For the Prototype exhibition, Berlin artist Constantin Hartenstein has developed spatial installations made of steel and glass that examine the establishment and reproduction of standards. Hartenstein understands these as cultural mechanisms that structure social reality, perception and behavior. The works range from industrial mass production, written and unwritten norms within the German majority society to expectations regarding bodies, sexuality, national consciousness and fears. His reduced, staged situations make visible how standards produce forms that appear self-evident and thus help to shape realities. Prototypes are usually used to prepare serial production and to test functionality. Hartenstein's works take up this logic and shift it: they appear simultaneously as models, stages and condensations of a society and its codes.
