Cosmo presents: BIG UP!

On the first weekend of December, it's that time again: COSMO celebrates the annual BIG UP! ritual in the hallowed halls of Berlin's Club Gretchen. A night full of global music culture and club sounds.

Biga*Ranx

Biga*Ranx is an MC, songwriter, producer and visual artist from Tours, France. In the last 10 years he has created his little art world, combining his personal aesthetic preferences, producing a unique blend. Musically between Jamaican Rub-A-Dub, roots reggae and digital cloud sounds, Biga*Ranx has created fertile ground for his lyrical talent. Smoothly flowing as an MC in English or French over his vapor-dub sound. Refreshingly produced, light-footed and lo-fi affine. With socially critical, humorous and environmentally conscious lyrics, he has become a celebrated artist, not only in his native France. With his current album Eh Yo! (2022) he brings his concentrated multi-talent to the Big Up! stage at his premiere in Berlin.

David Walters

International connections characterize the work of David Walters. The Frenchman with roots in the Caribbean sings in the Creole French of the island of Martinique and in English. Since 2005, he has mixed his singer-songwriter approach with his love for electronic beats, disco, deep house and Afro-Caribbean sounds. His latest album Soul Tropical continues his global disco approach, but sounds more electronic, clubby and upbeat than its predecessors. It is an impressively multi-faceted mix of poetic, thoughtful pieces and driving anthems full of joie de vivre. David Walters is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer and studio tinkerer. His true talent is revealed when he is on stage as a one-man orchestra.

Salomea

Experimental and soulful presents the Cologne band Salomea founded by Rebekka Salomea Ziegler. The German-American composes and writes the lyrics of her live project around Yannis Anft (keyboard), Oliver Lutz (bass) and Leif Berger (drums). Inspired by artists like Ella Fitzgerald or Erykah Badu, Salomea presents varied songs between contemporary R'n'B, Hip Hop and Jazz with a lot of surprise moments.

Ahmed Eid with ILYF

The Berlin band ILYF is the new project around Bukahara co-founder, Daniel Avi Schneider (violin) and Ahmed Eid (bass) and drummer Kuba aka Badkuz. As a long-standing musical team, they now present a broad musical repertoire that goes far beyond genre boundaries: psychedelic grooves, traditionally influenced Arabic songs and improvised adventures. Guaranteed danceable. For this project, ILYF translated the minimalist arrangements of Ahmed's album "Aghani Akhira" into a band sound. Musical toys, including an oriental keyboard, an electric mandolin and all kinds of bells and whistles make this project a new sound experience.

Lander & Adriaan

The Belgian duo Lander & Adriaan consisting of drummer Lander Gyselinck and producer Adriaaan Van de Velde. The love for digital synth sounds and underground dance genres from the 1990s seduced the two to jam together during the first lockdown. After a few secret concerts, their debut album was released in 2022. On it they cross - in a stubborn and ingenious way - genres like Chicago Juke, Detroit Techno or UK Funky with kitschy Jazz elements. They call it "Post Nudism Rave." Get ready for a new kind of dance experience.

Sheba Q

Sheba Q works as a math teacher during the day. On weekends, she's behind the decks. Jungle, grime, drum'n'bass and rap become the most important variables in her DJ formula. She proves this, among other things, in her monthly show on London's Subtle Radio.

Edna Martinez

Edna Martinez is a DJ and curator. Her sets tell of the musical journey between Africa, the Caribbean and the Levant, especially the sounds of cultura picotera from the Colombian Caribbean, where she grew up. She has radio shows on NTS and Wordwide FM and has launched several Berlin events, including El Volcán and LatinArab.
