As a street musician, she toured Germany and developed her own songs. The first bookings and appearances at small festivals, pubs and clubs soon followed. In 2011, she won the street music competition in Geldern. In November 2011, she came 6th in the WDR show Die besten Straßenmusiker aus NRW with her song tanz!

In 2012, she founded her band Cynthia Nickschas & Friends, consisting of a second guitar (Stefan Doc Janzik), acoustic bass (Christoph Wegener) and cajón and drums (Mario Hühn). Since September 2014, a saxophone (Christian Zet Zerban) has also been part of the band. Together they have performed at festivals such as the Burg Herzberg Festival and various smaller festivals and continue to perform as street musicians.

Nickschas met Konstantin Wecker through the singer-songwriter Prinz Chaos II, who signed them to his Sturm & Klang label. Her first studio album Kopfregal was released there on September 26, 2014. She contributes vocals and guitar to Konstantin Wecker's album Ohne Warum and sings duets with him on songs such as Revolution and Heiliger Tanz. She accompanied him on his Ohne Warum tour in 2015/2016 as a member of his band and performed with him at his concert at Songs an einem Sommerabend in August 2015, where she had already appeared in 2014 as a prizewinner of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

With her own songs, which are a "mix of folk and blues styles with critical lyrics that primarily deal with the shortcomings of her own generation", Cynthia Nickschas has performed solo at the 3sat Festival in 2014, at Songs an einem Sommerabend in 2014 and 2015, at a concert evening by Wecker at Schauspielhaus Bochum in May 2015 and at the Tollwood Summer Festival in Munich in June. In August, she performed at the open-air concert at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen. The Taz wrote that "with her snotty street songs, she perhaps best represents the unruly and oddball character that the festival had in its origins". In her songs, she combines punky non-conformity with tangible visions for a different world and also drags the listener out of their comfort zone, according to WDR 5.
