Daring or madness? In a small inflatable boat, packed with supplies and camera equipment, Robert Neu sets off to travel the 3,185-kilometer Yukon River - from the glaciers of the headwater lakes in British Columbia to the windswept mouth of the Bering Sea.

With his ultra-light packraft, he crosses the wilderness of Canada and Alaska, experiencing months of seclusion, only occasionally meeting people - mostly locals, including Indians and Yupik Eskimos. During this intense time, he lives a simple, direct life in the midst of nature - characterized by clarity, silence and impressive encounters with beavers, moose, eagles and bears.

But unexpected dangers also accompany the journey: An arsonist and a knifeman seriously challenge his adventure - and almost destroy his boat.

About the speaker:
Robert Neu, born in 1981, studied linguistics, history and journalism. He has been traveling around the world for over 20 years. He lived in Canada, spent years at home in Siberia and Central Asia and has been on long expeditions along the world's largest rivers - from the Yukon to the Yangtze. In addition to traveling, his passion is storytelling: With enthusiasm and precision, he conveys the fascination of being on the road in his live lectures.
