Dancing Heartbeats – Junges Filmprogramm beim Rundgang der KHM

As part of the tour at KHM 2024 (July 3 to 7), we will be presenting the new documentary film by KHM graduate Lisa Wagner "Dancing Heartbeats". Following the screening, Valerie Heine and Franz Müller will talk to the film's director, who will be in attendance.

Breakdancing/breaking was long part of a culture in which women tended to be accessories and were not allowed to be strong, self-confident and wild. Frieda, Jilou and Viola have worked hard to earn their place in the scene and are now among the most successful women in breakdancing. Jilou is a candidate for selection for this year's Olympic Games and Germany's medal hope. Frieda is a B-girl of the first hour, but she has to accept that she can no longer rely on her body as she gets older and finds a life after professional sport. Viola wants to be recognized above all as a dancer and combines breaking with contemporary dance.

"Dancing Heartbeats" accompanies the three dancers on their journey around the world. Between international battles and tough training sessions, Jilou, Frieda and Viola are also paving the way for the next generation of young girls who want to prove themselves in the male-dominated world of breakdancing. An empowering and inspiring film about the courage to realize your dreams.

Lisa Wagner studied theater, film and television studies, pedagogy and French (M.A.) in Germany, Italy, France and Canada. In 2015 she completed her postgraduate studies in directing at the KHM. She works as a freelance filmmaker, is co-founder of Pulver Film Produktion and develops her own documentaries and feature films.
