Super Jazz - superimposition of tradition and technology

Super Jazz sees itself as a superimposition of historical jazz idioms with digital technologies. The project is based on Daniel Klein's experience of using sensor-based instruments in theater productions since 2018 - including for Faust I in II at the ETA Hoffmann Theater Bamberg.

The focus is on a hybrid setup that combines acoustic percussion with digital sound design. This opens up new possibilities for combining seemingly contradictory sound worlds. The gestural dimension is often at the heart of the performance: the drums not only function as a sound source, but also as an interface and compositional tool. It controls a system of digital sound generators via certain playing movements and parameters.

This creates musical processes that make the interaction between man and machine both audible and visible - a deliberate alternative to the often opaque live electronics.

The areas of tension between composition and free play, between random values and systematic sound architecture, create an idiosyncratic, open space that deliberately defies established expectations.
