In the organizer's words:
Cinematic masterpiece from 1920 meets avant-garde live music
Robert Wiene's expressionist horror film from 1920 tells the story of the insane Dr. Caligari, who presents Cesare, who suffers from a strange, trance-like illness, as a fairground attraction during the day. At night, however, this somnambulant slave of Caligari's prowls through the city and commits terrible murders under the influence of his master. The story is narrated by Francis, who is much more tragically involved in the story than it seems at the beginning.
The Gramm Art Project with Julian Gramm (guitar) and Thomas Bugert (double bass) will provide a live musical accompaniment to the film artwork and create a jazzy, modern setting. The musicians have been performing their avant-garde silent film productions throughout Germany and neighboring countries since 2017. One hundred years after the heyday of expressionist film, the Gramm Art Project continues to impress audiences with specially composed music combined with free improvisation typical of the genre.
Every evening is a unique experience, meandering between historical cinematic art, live music and goosebumps.
