Molière's THE IMAGINED SICK is a story of imagination.

Argan, a wealthy man, is excessively afraid not only of contagion and illness, but also of the paralyzing injustice of humanity and the complexity of the present. Argan's manic behaviour terrorizes the entire family environment. Argan's complacent hypochondria and hostility lead him to trust only his supposed friend Doctor Purgon. He makes a good living from the creature's incessant complaints. In order to always have a "family doctor" at his side, Argan wants to marry off his daughter Angelique to the doctor's son. However, she is in love with Cléante and is prepared to fight for her love. The stepmother, on the other hand, is mainly interested in the inheritance of the unloved man. Only the maid Toinette sees through the crazy goings-on and prescribes a radical cure for Argan, using cunning and trickery to turn the situation upside down and bring reality to light.

This adaptation of Molière's turbulent comedy is a fast-paced and pithy reckoning with the snivelling world-weariness of the privileged. The eleven-member ensemble, who are also graduates of the Arturo drama school, slip into all kinds of roles, sometimes individually, sometimes together. It draws the audience into the world of the "human being" Argan with all the acting means at its disposal and without any extras.

Without any intrusive updates, the new version succeeds in placing a contemporary type of person at the center of the action, who first has to be cunningly and trickily convinced by his subordinates so that he can hopefully take the first step towards insight and change.
