Musical comedy by Paul Burkhard
Libretto by Erik Charell, Jürg Amstein and Robert Gilbert Based on a comedy by Emil Sautter
It's factory owner Albert Oberholzer's birthday and it's time to celebrate. The whole family is invited - esteemed and less esteemed guests. Everyone comes to the party, including the enfant terrible of the family, Oberholzer's brother Alexander, the circus director, together with Iduna, an attractive circus performer. Oberholzer's daughter Anna feels constricted by her bourgeois home. She is fascinated by Iduna and begins to dream of a life as a circus performer. She wants to leave her parental home and find her own way. For her freedom, Anna is even prepared to give up her love for gardener Robert, who is a thorn in her parents' side anyway. Bourgeois affluence meets glittering circus life, a firmly defined path in life meets the illusion of endless freedom, plus evergreens such as "Oh, my Papa" - all this guarantees varied and imaginative operetta entertainment at its best.
