How do you remember a family whose paths have been lost across centuries and countries?
The book is a personal search for traces of the Dreiseitel family, who lived for generations as part of the German minority in Eastern Galicia (now Ukraine) until resettlement and expulsion in 1939 abruptly changed their lives.
Using eyewitness accounts and archive material, author Christina Schmidt reconstructs the family's history, marked by migration, expulsion and loss, and accompanies the family on their journey of escape and new beginnings in the GDR up to the present day.
